The Rotary Club of Jackson's international project is the Lingap Center, located in Toledo City, Cebu, Philippines. The Lingap Center is the operating entity of The Lingap Children's Foundation, a tax-exempt organization which was founded in 2005 and is operated by our own club member, John Drake. The Center opened in 2006 to 39 children and now houses 100 of the most needy children in the world. The children previously lived in a converted pig slaughterhouse and were terribly abused, neglected, exploited or abandoned and they were not permitted to attend either church or school. Now, all attend both and a large number are attending college. Their Third Saturday Outreach program (children's Mass and soup kitchen) recently had over 1,200 needy children in attendance. They also conduct a daily Street Children's Education program for those who are unable to attend school or live at the Center. The Lingap Center was recently recognized as the finest facility of its kind in the Philippines by both the Peace Corps and Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, former President of the Philippines. The Rotary Club of Jackson is a proud partner in this project.
